Do you prefer shallow sandy beaches or smooth rocks? Do you chosse diving towers and playgrounds or a deserted island? In Tranås you can have it all! Experience on of Swedens´s most best kept secrets – lake Sommen’s archipelago. Catch a fish, or two… or three in one of our lakes.
Dive from the diving tower at Hättebaden. Wade out slowly from the shallow sandy beach at Sommen. Cool off at Damsängen after shopping in town. Tranås is a swimming paradise, although you may find it difficult to get through all your swimming treats in one day.
Do you enjoy the feeling of powering your own boat ? Here you can rent kayaks, canoes, and rowing, sailing and motor boats. Contact Tranås Tourist Office for information where you can put in your own kayak and get tips on suitable windbreaks.
Experience Sommen on a wood-fired steamboat. S/S Boxholm II is one of the oldest – and last – wood-fired steamboats. She has worked Lake Sommen since 1904, first transporting timber and now enchanting passengers. During the summer there are different themed tours to various gems along Lake Sommen. Check the timetable and book with Tourist Office Tranås Direkt.
Pike, walleye, perch, rainbow trout, char – few areas in Sweden have such rich and varied fishing waters as the area around Lake Sommen. Our most famous river for fishing is Svartån. Here, each angler can feel at home fishing for perch, chub or rudd. If you like fly fishing, there is chance of catching both rainbow trout and other fish.
TORPÖN & THE FERRY PORT
The Ferry Port on Torpön is a popular congregation spot in Lake Sommen, accessible by boat, bike or car. Enjoy some tasty local food, do a tree-top-walk or visit Naturum Sommen. Stay at the camp site and relax while watching the boats in the guest harbour. At Torpön there are also several marked hiking trails to explore and the “mainland” is easily accessible for further exploration.
